unreleased NTSC dreamcast game - evil twin
Jun 19th, 2010, 3:26pm

hi all,

i used to work at ubisoft. i have in my possession, an original gd rom burn of evil twin. written with a sharpie "almost final master (2a bugs left) evil twin ntsc 5/12"

pretty easy to say, this is one of a kind of an unreleased game.

anyone interested?

This is probably going to sound harsh no matter which way I put it but we do not support warez on these boards, so no links or open trading of warez files will be allowed.

If you are looking to sell the GD that's fine (I'm hoping that's the reason why you posted here to begin with), and if you are looking for a sale you might want to post over at the dcemulation.org forums too (we do not get that many visitors here).

What sort of price range are you looking for, and where are you located?.

Please excuse me if you find this offensive but I'm a little skeptical here, your introductory post on the board states you worked for Ubisoft and you have a GD of an unreleased Dreamcast game, it could well be a genuine mistake on your part but are you aware that the game was released for the Dreamcast?. I'm hoping you are genuine, and my guess is that being based in the US you have an NTSC beta of Evil Twin, as far as I know the game was only released in Europe.

Can you post any more details about the GD?

i understand.  i do realize the game was released in europe, i should have been more clear "never released in america"

i did work for ubisoft for 6 years, from 2002 - 2008 and i was in charge of all manufacturing.  when the DC was killed, my boss gave me this copy since he knew i was a collector.

i have put this same disc up for grabs over at atariage.com.  a bunch of those guys can vouche for me as i have been selling off my collection.

i have a post over at atariage, those guys can vouch for me

yikes, this site won't let me post links until i make 5 posts.  if you go to

dreamcast-scene, search by my user name "d8thstar", you'll see a pic of the disc

Thanks for the info, I took a peek over at AtariAge and you are indeed genuine Smiley.

There's one thing that worries me here though, it appears you haven't checked the GD on a Development Unit or a Dreamcast, if you are going to sell something like this you really should at least check the GD can be read (or even if the game is actually on there - it wouldn't be the first time for recordable media to be labelled incorrectly).

I sincerely hope the GD content does turn out to be what is written on the label, but even just for peace of mind, it would be prudent to check it.

i wish i had a debug unit to check it, i know for certain that a burned development copy will not work on a retail machine (unless there is some kind of hack).

i know for certain that the image is on there.  i know who i received it from (and the guy who burned it) and i can see that the disc has been recorded.  and from our internal processes, we would have scrapped a bad burn as they were tested right after.

again, i wish i could test this thing but i don't have a debug.

There is a way to test a GD-R on a Dreamcast retail model, you need the 'SEGA Dreamcast System Disc 2', boot up the Dreamcast with that disc and then swap in your GD-R. If you own a Dreamcast you could try that (or perhaps borrow a Dreamcast off a friend?), I'm sure everything should be fine though, seeing as you know the original source of the GD.

I'm more than a little biased here being a Dreamcast fan of course, but if I was in your shoes I would want to at least try and play the game (even if it was just for the novelty of playing a rare beta of a game for a few minutes). Testing the GD might also boost the confidence of anyone bidding for the item, I'm sorely tempted to make you an offer myself, but the wife would kill me if she found out Embarrassed.

Here's what the System Disc 2 looks like.

thanks for the info, i "found" my system disc Wink

the bad news; the game does not boot up with the system disc.

the good news; the game DOES boot up by swapping discs!  i had to open my DC, hold the switch back, boot the machine with a retail game, then VERY quickly, right after the DC hardware "beeps", pop the retail and push in evil twin.

so, the game is indeed on the disc.

Strange that the System Disc 2 didn't work for you, the security ring swap trick is always useful as an alternative method though Wink.

I'm glad you got the game to boot up and I hope you get your asking price for that extremely rare item, sadly I can not bid anything at this point in time - I've been warned about spending too much on games for the young ones in the family already Angry.
